About Sixth Coast

Discovering independent voices on the web

What is Sixth Coast?

Sixth Coast is a link aggregator that discovers and surfaces content from personal blogs and independent creators. We use RSS and Atom feeds to find new posts from across the web.

Unlike traditional aggregators that favor high-volume publishers, we use inverse frequency ranking to give more visibility to less frequent publishers. This means a thoughtful post from someone who writes once a month can rank alongside daily publishers.

How it Works

Our crawler discovers RSS and Atom feeds from personal websites and blogs. Each feed goes through a quality review to ensure we're surfacing genuine independent content rather than corporate marketing or spam.

Posts are ranked using a combination of recency, publishing frequency, and user votes. The "trending" view shows recent posts weighted by how often the author typically publishes and how many upvotes the post has received.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I submit my blog?

You can submit your blog directly from your account page. Just paste your RSS/Atom feed URL or your blog's homepage URL, and we'll find the feed automatically. Your feed will go through our content review process before appearing in the main listings.

We also automatically discover blogs through web crawling. If your site has an RSS or Atom feed linked in your HTML head tags, there's a good chance we'll find it.

What kind of content do you index?

We focus on personal blogs and independent creators. Corporate blogs, news sites, and marketing content are filtered out. We're looking for authentic voices sharing their thoughts, experiences, and expertise.

How does inverse frequency ranking work?

We calculate the average time between posts for each feed. Feeds that publish less frequently get a boost in the rankings. This prevents daily publishers from drowning out occasional writers.

What are community submissions?

When you submit a feed, it goes through our content review process. Feeds that haven't been reviewed yet (or didn't pass review) are available in the Community Submissions section. This lets you see and subscribe to feeds you've submitted while they await review.

Can I remove my site from Sixth Coast?

Yes, just contact us and we'll remove your feed from our index.

Is Sixth Coast open source?

Not currently, but we may open source components in the future.
