Once upon an algorithm

Here is an SF event advisory! Coming up in the first week of December, this looks great: a conversation at the Commonwealth Club about writing and AI featuring Nina Beguš, Ted Chiang, and James Yu.

James is a founder of Sudowrite as well as a sci-fi writer in his own right: one of the great bridges between tech and fiction, one of the great explainers of one to the other.

Ted Chiang is, of course, Ted Chiang. I was his interlocutor at Green Apple Books once, years ago, and I have never interviewed—possibly never met—anyone who thought more carefully about their replies before speaking. Ted exudes calm energy, yet it’s almost jarring: there is no rush to fill the void, only the quiet whirr of a ferocious mind at work. Terrific.

I’d attend if I was in town—please check it out in my place!
